Finding Your Brand Voice: The Key to Building Trust Online
Have you ever written something for your business and thought, “This doesn’t even sound like me…”?
You’re not alone. Many women entrepreneurs struggle to find the right words to describe what they do — and even more, to do it in a way that feels authentic. If you’ve ever wondered how to connect with your dream clients without sounding stiff or salesy, it all starts here: with your brand voice.
Your brand voice isn’t about being trendy or saying what everyone else is saying. It’s about sounding like you — the real, trustworthy, purpose-driven woman behind the brand. When you discover your voice and use it consistently, it becomes one of the most powerful tools to build trust online.
In this post, I’ll walk you through what brand voice actually means, why it matters so much for your business, and how to start uncovering yours with clarity and confidence.
What Is Brand Voice (and What It’s Not)
Your brand voice is the personality behind your words.
It’s how your business “speaks” across everything you create — your website, Instagram captions, emails, freebies, even your client onboarding messages. It’s the tone and language that help people recognize you and feel connected to what you’re about.
Think of your brand like a person. The visuals (colors, fonts, logos) are the outfit. The voice is the way that person talks — their warmth, confidence, encouragement, or sense of humor.
And here's the thing: you don’t need a big audience or a huge budget to have a clear brand voice. You just need to be consistent and true to who you are.
Why Your Brand Voice Matters
In a world where everyone is trying to be seen, trust is what makes you stand out.
Your dream clients aren’t just looking for services — they’re looking for someone they feel connected to. Someone they can trust. Someone who sounds real.
Your brand voice helps you:
Build familiarity and trust with your audience
Create a client experience that feels aligned before they even book
Attract people who resonate with your style and message
Show up consistently across all platforms — from Instagram to inquiry forms
When your voice feels authentic, your message lands more deeply. And when your audience trusts you, they’re more likely to engage, share, and ultimately work with you.
How to Start Discovering Your Brand Voice
You don’t need to be a copywriter or branding expert — you just need to take a little time to reflect and listen to how you naturally show up when you’re being yourself.
Here are a few prompts to help you get started:
1. What do you want your audience to feel when they interact with you?
Do you want them to feel empowered, comforted, encouraged, or inspired?
This becomes your anchor. If you want people to feel peace when they land on your website, your words need to reflect that tone — calm, warm, and inviting.
2. What 3–5 words describe your brand personality?
Are you soft and soulful? Bold and direct? Friendly and fun? Write them down. These words will shape everything from how you write emails to how you show up on social media.
3. How do you naturally speak when you're in your element?
Picture yourself on a Zoom call with your favorite client — the one who just gets you. How do you sound when you’re explaining what you do or why you love it? That’s your voice.
4. What words or phrases come up often in your content or conversations?
You might already have a signature phrase or two! For example, I tend to say things like “clarity and confidence,” “purpose-driven,” or “you were made for this.” Those small phrases can become part of your recognizable brand language.

A Quick Before & After Example
Let’s say you’re a Christian life coach writing a headline for your website.
Before (generic):
“I help women overcome fear and reach their goals.”
After (heartfelt & voice-aligned):
“I guide faith-filled women out of fear and into the freedom they were created for.”
See the difference? Same offer — but one version feels generic, while the other feels intentional and personal. That’s the power of brand voice. It helps your audience feel something, and that’s what builds connection.
A Final Word of Encouragement
You don’t have to be the loudest, most polished, or most “professional” voice in the room to make an impact.
You just have to be yourself — fully and faithfully.
Your message matters.
Your voice matters.
And when you show up with authenticity and purpose, the right people will feel seen — and they’ll be drawn to what only you can offer.
