5 Signs You Need a Website Refresh Before 2026
Your website is the digital front door of your business.
It's where your dream clients come to learn about you, trust you, and decide if they want to work with you.
But here's the hard truth: if your website isn't doing its job, you're missing out on clients, credibility, and conversions.
As we head into 2026, it's the perfect time to take an honest look at your website and ask yourself: Is this working FOR me... or AGAINST me?
If you're not sure, I've got you.
Here are 5 signs it's time for a website refresh—and what to do about it.
Sign #1: Your Messaging Doesn't Reflect Who You Serve NOW
When you first launched your business, maybe you said, "I help everyone with everything!"
You were figuring it out. You were open to all the opportunities.
But now? You've niched down. You've refined your services. You KNOW who your dream client is.
So why does your website still sound like you help "anyone who needs it"?
Your ideal client should land on your homepage and think, "Wait, this is for ME!"
They should feel seen. Understood. Like you GET them.
If your website messaging is vague, generic, or outdated, it's time for a refresh.
How to fix it:
✅ Get crystal clear on WHO you serve (be specific!)
✅ Rewrite your homepage headline to speak DIRECTLY to that person
✅ Make sure your About page tells the story of how you help THEM, not just your credentials
Example:
❌ "I'm a business coach helping women entrepreneurs."
✅ "I help Christian women entrepreneurs build businesses that honor God and provide for their families—without the hustle and burnout."
See the difference? Specificity attracts. Vagueness repels.
Sign #2: Your Design Feels Outdated or Doesn't Match Your Brand
Let's be honest: design matters.
Your website is often the first impression someone has of your business. And if it looks like it was built in 2015 (or thrown together in a panic just to "have something"), it's not giving your business the credibility it deserves.
Maybe your fonts feel dated. Maybe your colors don't match your brand anymore. Maybe the layout is clunky and hard to navigate.
Your design should feel cohesive, professional, and like YOU.
It should reflect the quality of your work and the transformation you provide.
If people land on your website and think, "Hmm, this doesn't look very professional," you've already lost them.
How to fix it:
✅ Choose 2-3 brand colors and use them consistently
✅ Pick 2 fonts max (one for headlines, one for body text)
✅ Use high-quality images (not blurry iPhone photos!)
✅ Make sure your layout is clean, easy to navigate, and mobile-friendly
Bonus tip: If design isn't your thing, consider using a professional template (like one of my ShowIt or Squarespace templates!) or booking a Website-in-a-Day so it's done right the first time.
Sign #3: You're Embarrassed to Send People to Your Site
This is a BIG one.
If you cringe every time someone asks for your website link...
If you find yourself saying, "Oh, it's not really finished yet..." (even though it's been live for 2 years)...
If you actively AVOID sharing your URL...
That's a problem.
You should be EXCITED to share your website. Proud of what it says and how it looks.
Your website is your digital home. It's where you invite people to learn more about you and your work.
If you're embarrassed by it, that's a sign it's time for a refresh.
How to fix it:
✅ Identify what's making you cringe (Is it the design? The copy? The photos?)
✅ Prioritize fixing the biggest pain point first
✅ Set a deadline to get it done (don't let "someday" turn into "never")
Remember: Your website doesn't have to be PERFECT. But it should be something you're proud to share.
Sign #4: Your Website Isn't Mobile-Friendly
Here's a stat that might shock you: over 60% of website traffic comes from mobile devices.
That means more than half of your visitors are viewing your site on their phones.
And if your website looks broken, clunky, or hard to navigate on mobile? They're leaving.
They're not going to pinch and zoom and struggle to read your tiny text. They're just going to bounce.
Your website MUST be mobile-friendly in 2026. Non-negotiable.
How to check:
✅ Pull up your website on your phone right now
✅ Can you easily read the text?
✅ Are the buttons big enough to tap?
✅ Does the menu work properly?
✅ Do images load correctly?
If the answer to ANY of these is "no," it's time to fix it.
How to fix it:
✅ Use a responsive website platform (Squarespace and ShowIt are both mobile-optimized!)
✅ Test your site on multiple devices
✅ Make sure your fonts are readable on small screens
✅ Use buttons instead of tiny text links
Mobile matters. Don't skip this.
Sign #5: You're Not Getting Any Bookings from Your Website
This is the ultimate sign your website isn't working.
You're getting traffic. People are visiting your site.
But they're not booking calls. They're not filling out your contact form. They're not signing up for your email list.
They're just... leaving.
If your website isn't converting visitors into clients, something's not clicking.
It could be:
❌ Your messaging is unclear
❌ Your CTA (call-to-action) is buried or confusing
❌ You're not giving people a clear next step
❌ Your site doesn't build enough trust
Your website should be WORKING for you—generating leads, building trust, booking clients.
If it's not doing that, it's time to figure out why.
How to fix it:
✅ Make your CTA crystal clear (What do you want people to DO?)
✅ Add a big, bold button on your homepage ("Book a Free Call," "Get the Free Guide," etc.)
✅ Include testimonials and client wins to build trust
✅ Make sure your contact form is easy to find and simple to fill out
Bonus: Consider adding a lead magnet (free download, checklist, etc.) to capture emails even if people aren't ready to book yet.
